Bad Dream

Not a joke!!!

Last night I had a nightmare that I was poaching a couple of eggs and didn’t put any vinegar in the water! Needless to say they didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped. Devastated. I’d like to say I woke up in a cold sweat and all to add to the story but that would be a lie.

Poached Eggs:
First, bring about 5cm of water in a saucepan to almost boiling. If the water is already boiling, lower the heat until it is no longer boiling. Add a couple of teaspoons of vinegar to the water. Vinegar allows the egg whites to congeal more easily. Crack open and gently drop the eggs into the water, one by one. With a spoon, nudge the egg whites closer to their yolks. This will help the egg whites hold together.

Carefully slide them into the water! Don't just throw them in!

Turn off the heat. Cover. Let sit for 3-4 minutes, until the egg whites are cooked.

I like poached eggs as an alternative to frying because of less fat to some extent but more because it is easier to clean up.

Enjoy!

  1. I’m not sure about the asparagus?
Very well presented though.. if you really did present it like that?? Sorry for doubting but I just have never seen you present food like that.
Maybe you were having a bad dream about poached eggs because i cooked some poached eggs and put them in your room to create the aroma of poached eggness?

  2. oh and also put me on your blogroll.

  3. Nah it’s not my pic. Five asparagus is a bit much in the morning. I could eat five asparagus at night.

  4. You neglected to mention another way in which poaching has the wood over frying: poached eggs taste better. Unless you don’t agree with me, in which case there was no negligence on your part, and I apologise.

  5. Quite correct though. Poached eggs do taste better. They have a pure quality about them. As for the aspargus, I think perhaps a couple of them in the morning would be quite suitable along with some buttered sourdough toast.

  6. I didn’t neglect to mention that, I just thought it was a given that poached eggs taste better. No need to tell you what you already know.

As for the Asparagus, a couple of them would be OK but not five, that’s just not right.

  7. Five is right out.

  8. I never liked Shakespeare until now.

  9. I just hope that’s shepards pie in your knickers.

  10. what does shakespeare have to do with anything? or was there some sort of subtle reference that i missed? I love asparagus, and i could a whole bunch in the evening, but i dont know if i could stomach ANY at breakfast/brunch.

  11. Crommo not singed in. Why didn’t you sing?

  12. “Five is right out” – classic line from Monty Python with the Holy Hand Grenade
“I never liked Shakespeare until now” – Nelson Muntz when watching Children of the Corn, then followed with a line from the children, “I hope that’s shepards pie in your knickers”, and I agree with Julian. Why didn’t you sing? Just cause you’re not singed in.
